Sound Blaster Drivers

I have a SB Live! Value card that came with my PC. I don't think I have onboard sound on the MB.
Went to Creative site and found that for the Live series (except for the 24bit version) No Vista drivers are in development or planned.
What does that mean for people like me? Windows XP had native support/driver for SB Live where no driver was required.
Running the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor it says that I may need a driver from the Manufacturer (Creative) but Creative is obviously not going to do one. So does that mean for my PC I will have no sound with Vista?
Has anyone with Live card installed Vista Beta and got sound from their SB card?
I can't test yet as my DVDs are in the mail.

Sorry Rob - Looks like you need to purchase a newer, up to date sound card. Make absolutely sure to check Microsoft`s Vista compatibility site to see if your new prospective card will work on Vista before you purchase one. Good luck. ................. John. "Rob" wrote in message

Try to download a XP driver and run the .exe file in XP compatiability mode that worked for my Sound Card

Hi,
I still haven't received my DVDs. I do have the SB Live drivers (they're actually two exe files - The main and a patch from Creative). Can you elaborate on how you'd run the Driver exe in compatiblity mode? Also, did you have one driver exe or like me 2 exe files? If 2, did you run the patch as well?

I tried installing my sound blaster 512 PCI xp drivers in xp sp2 compatability mode and the system froze up, had to reboot to last know good boot. I don't see an option to change to quad sound either, like I do with xp cause I got 4 front speakers and they make movies and music sound better than just 2 speakers.

I am beginning to feel a little disheartened with Vista beta. My SB Live is a good sound card and I really don't care to upgrade it just to get sound in Vista. XP had built-in support for the card, why can't Vista offer the same? It’s not like it’s an ancient card.
I also found out that my two year old printer needs Vista drivers that its manufacturer right now chose not to develop any. And Vista upgrade advisor mentioned that a driver will be needed from the manufacturer.
I know this isn't MS' fault, but I can't help but feel forced to buy all new hardware just to run Vista and that is a hard pill to swallow right now. I wish that by RC1 MS would somehow issue generic drivers for most (recent) hardware out there. It would really ease the transition to Vista I think.

My sound blaster live 24 bit is working onVista b2. You cannot use the "setup" method. I used Winzip to extract the files and then did update and pointed it to the extracted files and it worked.
Hope it works for you.

Actually, with later releases of the SB Live!, XP did not have built-in support. Only the older SB Live!'s. My old SB Live worked right away in XP, but one that I used to build for someone later did not and had to have the drivers installed. "Rob" wrote in message

Why do you think you'll have to "buy all new hardware?" Vista won't be released for at least seven months. There's a high probability that there will be drivers for your sound card and printer by then.

That link is for Audigy not Live. Unless you meant that it would work for Live too under Vista?

The Vista Beta2 seems install its native driver (Creative EMU10K1 Audio Prosser (WDM)) for my SB Live 5.1 system but it can only play in 2 speakers
It first prompt out error when I run the CD come from Creative Sound Blaster, but I simply run the SETUP.EXE in the folder, it allow to run but cannot activate the AudioHQU with 'Cannot initialize audio driver. Reinstall audio driver'
After play around, still no luck with only 2 speaker can play but not 5.1 :( :(

YIKES!! that was a mistake. the modified driver was installing, window then showed (not responding) but heard hard drive running so sat back to see where things were going, when all of a sudden a very loud tone began to eminate from the speakers, like being at a fire station when a call came in. The time is 3:30am and it scared the heck out of me... LOL I instantly pushed the power button but had to wait the 4 seconds (which seemd like much longer) till she powered down. mental note to self... refrain from doing that again.. think I'll call it a night.

My SoundBlaster 5.1 is working in Vista Beta 2, except for the game port. In Device Manager, it shows "Creative SB Live! Series (WDM)" and a "Unimodem Full-Duplex Audio Device". Sound seems fine.

My sound blaster live 24 bit is working onVista b2. You cannot use the "setup" method. I used Winzip to extract the files and then did update

and pointed it to the extracted files and it worked.
Jerry:
Which download file did you use?
TIA
